My Picks: “Hey Good Lookin’ ” by New York Horns

“Hey Good Lookin’ ” by New York Horns

I recently had the great pleasure of going into the studio with the New York Horns and recording their first legitimate CD, simply titled New York Horns.  It features some of my favorite cats to work with here in the New York area, and of course, many are my bandmates in Southside Johnny and the Asbury Jukes, as well.

When we hit live, I always sing a few tunes with the band and I am happy to say that they chose one of them for the CD.  It is the very well-known Hank Williams classic “Hey Good Lookin’.”  This version was inspired by a recording I heard many years ago of The Jerry Hahn Brotherhood doing this very song.  To my knowledge, that recording was never released, but I always loved it and it featured one of my favorite singers on the planet – and Wichita brother – Mike Finnigan.  Although this interpretation is a long way from Hank’s version, I think you will dig it.

I encourage you to check out the rest of the songs on the CD and come on out to our live gigs.  The band is killin’, funky, groovin’ and you’ll have a good time.  For more info on the New York Horns, please go to: www.nyhorns.com;  facebook.com/nyhorns;  twitter.com/nyhorns & youtube.com/newyorkhorns.
